My friend Sara had a fabulous idea for an Alice in Wonderland group based upon Sir John Tenniel's illustrations for the original print of Lewis Carroll's works. As Tenniel's illustrations were originally in black and white, when later publishers began coloring them they often rendered Alice's pinafore in either pink or peach instead of the bright blue so familiar from the Disney movie. I was asked to be Alice for the group, and decided to do my costume in this pinky-peach calico to be more true to the Victorian editions.

This costume is several layers, starting with a frilly petticoat, then the pink pinafore, which has a short invisible zipper in back, and whose straps button with pearl buttons in the back, after criss-crossing across the shoulders. Underneath the pinafore, the blouse is bi-colored, with a white, swiss-dot, gathered collar, front, back, and pink sleeves with white lace trim. The blouse buttons up the back, with smaller pearl buttons. The white apron is made out of cotton duck, to help hold its shape, and ties in a neat bow at the waist. I incorporated a pocket into the costume so I could carry things like my money, ID and keys.
